She blogs about what it was like to have a PhD supervisor in the land of understatement and non-verbal communication, and how she figured out what her supervisor was really trying to teach her. Ericka Johnson is a senior lecturer in Technology and Social Change at Linköping University, and member of the Young Academy of Sweden.

What is your research area?
STS – Science & Technology Studies

How did you become interested in the topic?
I was working in IT in the mid 1990s and kept hitting my head against social aspects of technology.

What do you prefer to do on your spare time?
I like to garden.

What was the last book you read?
Learn to Write Badly. How to Succeed in the Social Sciences by Michael Billig.

What are you going to blog about?
What it was like to have a PhD supervisor in the land of understatement and non-verbal communication, and how I figured out what my supervisor was really trying to teach me.

What are your expectations of blogging in the Curie?
I don’t really know what to expect – I’ve never blogged before, and barely even read blogs.
